Howard Nelson

Howard Nelson, 78, passed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his home in Carrington, N.D.

Howard's visitation was Monday, July 10, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, N.D.

His funeral service was held Tuesday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, N.D., with Rev. Paul Cross officiating. Burial was at the Carrington Cemetery.

Teresa Edland was pianist. Congregational hymns were "In The Garden" and "On Eagle's Wings." Recorded music was "I'll Fly Away" by Alan Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers were Brad Parkhouse, Alexander Nelson, Bennett Parkhouse, Wendal Walton, Mike Balvitsch, Bill Bauer, Bill Merriman and Lee Wahlund.

Howard Kenneth Nelson was born on May 31, 1945, to Dorothy (Goodrich) Nelson and Louis Nelson in Ellendale, N.D. He graduated from NDSCS, Wahpeton, N.D., in Autobody.

Howard married Charlotte Schweitzer on September 3, 1965, in Carrington, N.D. He worked in autobody and as an insurance adjuster.

Howard belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Carrington, Carrington Fire Department, Carrington Ambulance Service, Kiwanis, JC's, Lions Club and Carrington Golf Club.

He enjoyed race car driving, golf, hunting, fishing and pool leagues in Carrington, Devils Lake, and Jamestown. He also liked spending time at family get togethers, vacations and trips.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Bryan (Heather) Nelson of Clark Summit, Pa.; daughter, Dana (Brad) Parkhouse of Casselton, N.D.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dorothy; brothers, Loren Nelson and Gene Nelson; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Evelyn Schweitzer; brother-in-laws, Karsten Schweitzer and Darrel Schweitzer and grandson, Patrick Nelson.
