The Carrington Redbirds Babe Ruth team finished off their season with a third place finish at the Red River Valley postseason tournament, held July 12-15 in Hillsboro.
Playing as the fourth seed, Carrington began their tournament with a bang, earning a 15-4 10-run rule win over fifth-seeded Mayville. They then met up with Hatton-Northwood, and spotted them a 6-0 lead before making a big comeback and forging a 6-6 tie.
With the game in the balance, Cody Otto delivered a walkoff single to give the Redbirds a stirring 7-6 win, and allow them to advance to the winners bracket semifinal with host and top seed Hillsboro. The 'Birds were dispatched by mercy rule themselves, 13-3, to drop into the loser's bracket.
After an exciting 3-2 win over Thompson 'A' to stay alive, they would be eliminated by Hillsboro with another 13-3 loss to end their season. New Rockford would emerge as the league champions with a 10-8 win in nine innings over Hillsboro, and advanced to the State 'B' Babe Ruth Tournament in Park River July 21-25.
The team was coached by Mitch Page, and assisted by Luke Kutz.
