The District 4 Tournament wasn't the only baseball that Carrington Post 25 played during this past week's worth of reports.
A three-team doubleheader with LaMoure Post 19 and Mayville Post 8 was held at City Park on Thursday, July 13.
The Redbirds would need late-game heroics from Grady Shipman to take a 4-3 dramatic victory over the A's of Post 19, and an extra-inning outburst by the Patriots gave them a 14-8 win over Post 25.
Shipman's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off LaMoure reliever Landon Piehl gave the 'Birds their ninth win of the season. It helped cap a successful no-decision for Shipman on the mound, as he worked a quality start with six innings and three runs.
Hudson Schmitz got the win with a scoreless seventh. Offensively, Lucas Hendrickson had two hits for Carrington.
The game was a frenetic affair, as many games with Carrington and LaMoure have been historically. The A's took a two-run cushion early, before Post 25 scored three in the fourth. Post 19 got the equalizer in the sixth inning.
Corban Potts started for Post 19, pitching four innings. At the plate, Tate Mart had three hits for LaMoure.
The late-afternoon game with Mayville featured two big bombs and five RBIs by 6'6" Patriot Landon Koenig.
Even in spite of Koenig's outsized contributions, Post 25 had their opportunities to come out on top in the finale.
At the top of the lineup, Jack Erickson was in the middle of many Redbird rallies, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in.
Carrington would end their regular season with a 9-7 overall mark, ahead of their District 4 Tournament action in Steele July 17-19.
