Recent births at Carrington Hospital include: Aug. 5 - boy to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Winterer, Carrington; girl to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Pulst, Sykeston, Aug. 6 - girl to Mr. and Mrs. Allan Heron, Cathay. Aug. 10 - girl to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stegmeier, Melville; boy to Mr. and Mrs. John Fritz, Carrington.
A number of 4-H members gathered recently at the P.L. Beckley home and helped Percy, Jr., to celebrate his birthday. Lunch was served to the guests and Percy was presented with a number of gifts.
A number of friends were entertained August 8th at the Albert Pederson home in honor of Deloris Pederson’s birthday.
Mrs. R.C. Butts was hostess to Dover Sewing Club members and Circle Four Homemakers last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Myrtle Bracelen gave a lesson on metal tapping. Mrs. Clifford Bassett and Sandra, and Glenna Neil Laughlin were special guests. A 2-course supper was served by the hostess.
The Everglad Homemakers Club met with Mrs. Harry Black. Election of officers was held. The officers for the coming year are: president, Mrs. Harold Zink; vice-president, Mrs. Avolt Grager; secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Herb Lund. Project leaders are as follows: food, Mrs. Oscar Zink and Mrs. Frank DeBolt; home management, Mrs. O. Solberg and Mrs. Ralph Bort; clothing, Mrs. John Nysted and Mrs. Harry Black.
The McHenry baseball team motored to Glenfield Sunday to play off the tie of the league games with their team, losing to them by a score of 7-16. This gives our team second place. They were defeated once by Glenfield and once by Binford during the season. The all-star team of the 3 county leagues will play Glenfield on their diamond this coming Sunday.
Little Beth Eileen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Christianson, McHenry, was baptized Sunday in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Mr. and Mrs. Louie Pewe as sponsors.

Calf rustlers were caught red-handed in the Edmunds area Friday evening.
Larry Hesch, who farms 11 miles west of the Stutsman County community chanced upon three men who were beginning a hurried butchering job in his pasture. The beef carcass was a freshly killed 300 pound calf.
The funeral was held Tuesday for Jay Winning. Six-year-old Jay died Saturday in Grand Forks of injuries he received when struck by a moving vehicle. April 30. He had never regained consciousness.
A honey extraction plant will soon be in operation near Carrington. Located on the Elvin Gedrose farmstead south of the city, the plant will be housed in a new blue steel building, which was erected last fall.
Owner Dewey Robson is in the process of transferring the headquarters of his beekeeping business from Clearbrook, Minn., to the new building.
The PeeWee baseball team returns to Red Willow Sunday to compete in the final rounds of a 32-team, double elimination tournament there. The conclusion of the tourney was rained out Aug. 5.
Ken Sebastian is assisting Ron Humphrey with coaching. Starting members of Pee Wee squad are Howard Bergland, Jim Johnson, Tim Freeman, Rod Skytland, Keith Hambrick, Phil Schramm, Jim Looysen, Paul Carr and Terry Humphrey.
Jim Fike was unbeaten in stock car racing at the Central Speedway, Sunday. Fike won all four events in his division: first heat, trophy dash, semi-final and feature.
Mary Kay Kutz and Larry Larson were married July 21, at 2:30 p.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church of Sykeston. Rev. Schuster officiated. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Polries of Sykeston and Mrs. Jim Seil of Sykeston sang, “We’ve Only Just Begun,” and “ The Wedding Prayer.”

A rental agreement between the city of Carrington and the Carrington School District for a lease of the Armory will be in place for the next school year. The school will pay $7,500 for the school term. The school will have the building between 3:15 - 6:30 p.m. and is allowed a maximum of three Saturday events per month.
Carrington school has added new computers at the elementary school this year, besides connecting the school for e-mail.
Navy Ensign Kenneth E. Schwalbe, son of Kathleen Kittleson, Bottineau, and Francis Schwalbe of Sykeston, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his present rank in the United States Navy. He majored in Systems Engineering. He is a 1991 graduate of Sykeston High School at Sykeston.
New Arrivals - Kyrie Ann, daughter born to Angelia and Anthony O’Connor of Sutton, 7 pounds, 9.3 ounces; Rebecca Naomi, 8 pounds, 15½ ounces, born to Susette and Linus Allmaras, New Rockford.
Weddings - Darcy Gussiaas, Carrington and Marty Schenck, Hawley, Minn., on July 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington; Vickie A. Lauckner, Carrington and Andrew A. Bennett, International Falls, Minn., on May 29 at the Roger Lauckner farm; Holly Piatz and Russ Blomquist, May 2 at the Carrington City Park.
Obituaries - Paul Peter Hoppe, Sr., 92, Carrington, died August 11; Curtis Peterson, 81, Carrington, died August 12.
Sutton News - Chris Rahlf and a group of young folks from the area returned home on Friday, a week ago, after attending the National LCMF meeting in Atlanta. They were gone about 10 days.
Wednesday evening, Ruth and June Harrington visited at the Cooper home with Phyllis and Shirley.
Many relatives and friends attended the 50th wedding anniversary open house for Vi and Gene Edlund, which was held at their home in Binford. The party was hosted by their family.
Sunday morning guests at the Ruth Harrington home were Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Hansen and Bob Bailey.
