Titans fall in opener to H-N

The Hatton/Northwood Thunder scored touchdowns in all four quarters to outdistance the Griggs/Midkota Titans, 28-8, in the opening week of football Friday night, August 18, in Northwood.

Six-foot-three, 175-pound senior receiver Ander Thorsgard recorded three of those scores, beginning with a 14-yard run in the first quarter, and later crossing the pylons via both a run and pass completion, each covering 40 yards.

Thunder quarterback Derek Carpenter threw two touchdown passes, one to Thorsgard and the other to Aiden Johnson (15 yards) in the third quarter. He also added a two-point conversion run.

The Titans got their one score in the final quarter on junior Kindle Carlson's six-yard run.

Griggs/Midkota senior James Woodstead, starting in place of injured Brady Haugen, finished with an even 150 yards of total offense, with 101 yards on 24 carries and going 4-for-15 for 49 yards through the air.

Defensively, Max Ludwig paced G-M with eight total tackles (four solo), and Latrell Rainey had five solo stops and one assist. The Titans sacked Carpenter three times in the game.

Sitting at 0-1 in both overall and 9B - Region 1, the Titans faced off against southeastern regional power Wyndmere/Lidgerwood this past Friday night. The Warbirds pitched a 54-0 shutout win over Richland in week one.

Next up for G-M is a home date on September 1 against Sargent County in Cooperstown, beginning at 7 p.m.
