Cards 3rd at Region 2; qualify for State B meet in Mapleton

The primary objective for the Carrington girls golf team has been achieved, after 18 holes of play at Maple River Golf Club Friday, September 15.

And now, the Cards will trace that exact route back to Mapleton for the State B Golf Tournament, which will be held today and Tuesday (September 25-26).

CHS took third place in the Region 2 team qualifier at Maple River with a combined score of 394 to nab the final slot for groups.

Kindred took the regional team crown with a 355, four strokes better than Fargo Oak Grove's 359. Central Cass finished 23 shots behind the Cards in fourth (417), followed by Northern Cass (429) and Enderlin (494).

Individually, Kacie Rexin shot an 18-hole score of 78 to take second place behind defending state champion Avery Bartels of Kindred. Rexin, a junior, is expected to challenge Bartels in her quest for her fourth consecutive Class B medalist distinction.

The meet featured the best round of the season from sophomore Molly Hansen, who placed fourth, carding 89.

A pair of eighth graders, Aniston Hoornaert and Kenedy Trostad, rounded out the Cardinal scoring with scores of 104 and 129.

Seventh grader Laken Johnson is also on the CHS roster, but did not participate in the Region 2 meet.

Along with placing as a member of the top three teams, individuals can qualify for state by shooting a score of 87 or lower at designated meets, or finish in the top 10 at the regional team qualifier.
