Carrington junior Isabel Wendel was recognized for getting her 1,000th career dig in the Cards' Tuesday, October 3 match against Barnes County North. But for a momentary slipup in set three of their District 5 game last week, the Carrington volleyball team would have had a perfect set record in regulation matches played during the period of September 28 to October 3.
The Cards took a three-set win over nonregion opponent Benson County in the East Gym in the first match (25-16, 25-10, 25-8), and were cruising along in their conference match with Barnes County North in Leal after dual 25-12 wins in the first two games.
But the Bison played tougher and more resilient than their 1-13 record coming in would suggest, and extended the match with a 25-22 win over CHS in that set.
So, the Cards regrouped, and took another 25-12 win to clinch the match, and move to 3-1 in the district and 12-7 overall.
Madison Johnson led Carrington with eight kills against BCN, and Isabel Wendel had four. The two each had two aces as well.
Wendel would record her 1,000th career dig in the Tuesday match, and was presented with a game ball commemorating her accomplishment.
BCN (0-4, 1-14) was led by Izabella Haugen's six kills.
In the win over the Wildcats, Wendel had 10 kills to lead the way, but the story of the match was eight service aces by Kacie Rexin.
Rexin also had 16 assists, and Kenadie Pazdernik made 21 digs.
