Titans earn first victory

Explosive plays, which have been in mighty short supply for the Griggs/Midkota Titans this season, came in abundance Friday night, October 6, in Cooperstown.

And each and every one of those scores helped the Titans record their first win of the season, 52-32, over the Enderlin Eagles in 9-man Region 1 action.

"It was nice to see our offense get the ball moving," said Titan Head Coach Ryan Dockter. "Our defense played tough, putting up two scores themselves, and it was nice to have three seniors get touchdowns."

That G-M defense got the Titans on the board first, as Kindle Carlson pounced on an Enderlin fumble in the end zone and added the two-point conversion. Dockter's squad went to the ground game for the following touchdown, as CJ Rainey scored from one yard out and quarterback James Woodstead contributed the two, making the score 16-0 after the first quarter.

Enderlin (0-7, 0-7 Region 1) kept pace momentarily with a 12-yard scoring pass from Orien Adargo to Eli Christensen to pull within 16-6, but the dam burst for the Eagles with two big Titan plays to follow, both from Woodstead.

On G-M's following drive, the senior quarterback connected for 21 yards to Jarin Monson with a Carlson conversion run, and on defense, he stepped in front of an Adargo pass and returned it 22 yards for another score. With the two-point pass to Lakin Ronningen, it was 32-6 at halftime for the Titans.

The only score of the third quarter went to Griggs/Midkota as well, with a 31-yard toss from Woodstead to Latrell Rainey coupled with a Carlson conversion.

The Eagles got one more touchdown on an Adargo pass to Karson Gruba, making the score 40-12 in the fourth quarter before the Titan reserves got into the game.

In between two more touchdowns by Carlson and Woodstead on the ground, Enderlin scored three touchdowns in "garbage time" to make the final score appear closer than it ended up being.

For the game, Woodstead went 8-for-13 for 174 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Latrell Rainey was the top receiver, hauling in three passes for 74, and Ronningen had 40 yards on two receptions and Cole Vincent had a 36-yard catch.

Carlson finished three yards shy of a 100-yard effort at 97 yards on 13 attempts. Vincent had 57 yards, giving him 93 all-purpose yards for the night, and Woodstead finished with 48 yards on the ground.

G-M (1-7) concluded their season on Friday, hosting the Hankinson Pirates at GCC. Hankinson is currently in the mix for the final Region 1 playoff spot, along with Maple River.
