Oakes ends G-M's season

Griggs/Midkota faced a tall task in their attempt to spring an upset and prolong their volleyball season at the District 5 Tournament in Oakes Monday night, October 30.

Namely, to take down the hometown team on their court with Region 3 qualification on the line.

The Tornadoes took care of the playoff nerves early, and sent the Titans home for the fall with a 15-25, 8-25 and 22-25 loss.

Kelsey Johnson had eight kills, Kennedy Reidman six and Vanessa Vollmer five for G-M, whose season ended at 6-20. Vollmer also had the team's one service ace, and 22 digs to her credit.

In the loss, Emma McCullough had 21 assists, and libero Ryan Johnson's 23 digs paced the Titans.

Four seniors suited up for their final match in the G-M jersey, those being Anika Aarestad, Clayre Hilbert, Ryan Johnson and Kadance Klubben.

Oakes entered Region 3 play as the third seed from District 5, and faced second seed from District 6 M-P-B in today's loser-out quarterfinal match in Ellendale.
