Miss Betty Ruth Topp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Topp, Grace City, will represent North Dakota in clothing achievement at the national 4-H Club Congress in Chicago from November 26 to December 4.
The University of North Dakota, under direction of John E.E. Howard, will present a concert in Fessenden High School on Friday, Nov. 19. A member of that organization is Roger Engberg of Carrington.
Now employed temporarily in the T.H. Cousins, Jr., home in Carrington is a European displaced person, Mrs. Apollan Marcincjik, formerly of Poland, who arrived in this country with her husband recently. Dr. Marcincjik is a surgeon and is now an assistant in St. John’s Hospital, Fargo. The lady’s maiden name is Galina.
Carrington High School placed three men on the all-conference football team this fall, according to a complication of ballots from member schools in the North Central Conference. Two Carrington men were named on the second team. Selected on the first team were Edward Reisnour, Wesley Hanson and Pat O’Neill, Tom Cousins and Charles Kahl received places on the second team.
Alan Willard, Richard Kirchoff, Milton Lura, and Lyunell Garrett, Carrington, were among those listed for honorable mention.
White chrysanthemums, yellow mums and asters decorated the Trinity Lutheran Church of Carrington Monday afternoon for the double ring ceremony of Phyllis Nysted, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Nysted, and Henry Gussiaas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gussiaas.
At a double ring ceremony in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monday morning, Miss Jean Marie Semmens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Semmens of New Rockford, was united in marriage to James R. Smith. Father Harte officiated.

Atlanta, Ga., is the next stop for Douglas Berglund on the Punt, Pass and Kick trail. Doug was again victorious Sunday in competition among other 13- year-olds, at Met Stadium in Bloomington.
“The Labors of Love,” an old-fashioned musical melodrama in two acts, will be presented by CHS Senior Saturday and Monday, Nov. 17 and 19 in the Carrington Grade School, Curtain time is 8 p.m.
Supporting roles will be portrayed by Julie Haen, Mary Barnett, Marlene Hoffman, Paul Olson, Avis Brandt, Joe Vogelwede, and Merrily Beaudoin. Ladies of the Evening will be played by Patty Price, Beth Skadberg, Mary Kay Schaffer, Kathy Messmer and Sheila Vetsch. Miss Joyce Wigel is director.
A long familiar name takes its leave from Carrington’s Main Street this week as Berglund Farm Supply has been sold. This new owner is Joe Jaeger, who will reopen the store after a short break for inventory with a new name, Jaeger Hardware.
Carrington girls’ basketball team won third place in the District 16 tournament played at Bowdon last weekend. Goodrich won the championship and Sykeston took second place.
Neil L. Lund and James M. Kraemer of Carrington are members of the 39-voice Men’s Glee Club at NDSU, Fargo.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Neumiller were honored on their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday evening at the IOOF Hall.
The Carrington-New Rockford Music Club has set Dec. 9 as the date for the second annual Christmas carol Festival.
Arlene Goter, senior in the School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington, was featured in a senior piano recital at the University, Oct. 13.

Carrington will see a rate hike this year to offset the increased cost of hauling garbage out of town. Last year, the city budgeted $75,000 for garbage-hauling costs, this year that figure jumped to $150,000.
Members of the Carrington Country Club voted unanimously to pursue a new18-hole golf course north of the city. A local fund drive will be conducted and it is assumed that the current country club will assume about a $200,000 debt load after the project has been completed.
Christina Butts has been named secretary at the Carrington Area Chamber of Commerce replacing Michelle Hayes.
Jerry Bartholomay, a former Bowdon teacher has been named top superintendent of the northeast region of the state, by the North Dakota Association of School Administrations.
Delia Wentland, of CHC Long Term Care loves to play the piano for the residents with a sing-along about once a month. She is a former teacher in the Carrington school system where she taught for 21 years.
Area obituaries - Matilda “Tillie” Seibold, 93, Carrington, formerly of Bowdon, and Hans Overby, 88, of Binford, both died November 6; Irene M. Knudsen, 95, Bremen, died Monday, November 9.
Area births - Nikki Chey was born November 4 to Cindy and Mike Holiday, Carrington. She weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Dylan James, born November 8, 1998 to Brenda and Greg Rue, Sheyenne. Both babies were born at Carrington Health Center.
The median age of North Dakotans rose 3.1 years from 1990 through 1997. Nationally, the median age rose 2.1 years to 34.9 during the same period. North Dakotas average age is 35.9.
