Full slate of topics at Central Dakota Ag Day

The Central Dakota Ag Day program offers 18 concurrent seminars of interest to farmers, ranchers and others.

North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension plans to host the annual Central Dakota Ag Day on Friday, Dec. 15, at the Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC).

The daylong program includes opportunities to learn about crop production, weed management, veterinary issues, and crop and livestock market outlooks.

The event begins with coffee and doughnuts at 9:30 a.m.

Rancher Doug Bichler of Linton, N.D. will deliver the keynote address titled "Life Left-handed" at 10:00 a.m.

NDSU Extension crops economist Frayne Olson will conclude the program with a one-hour general session titled "Now What? 2023 - 2024 Crop Market Outlook" at 2:30 p.m.

The Central Dakota Ag Day program includes 18 concurrent sessions covering three main areas: agronomy, livestock and agricultural life. The topics include:

• Soybean Stem Diseases

• Waterhemp and Kochia Management

• Wheat and Corn Production

• Soybean and Dry Bean Update

• Weed Control in Pastures

• NRCS Programs for Ranchers

• Cattle Market Outlook

• Rules for Selling Locker Meat

• The Business of Custom Combining

• Life on the Road and in the Field

• Returning to Roots: How Did Our Ancestors Feed Themselves?

• German-Russian Christmas Traditions

• Best Vegetable Varieties for North Dakota

• Preparing Grain Samples and Sheaves for Show and Home Display

Certified crop advisors can receive continuing education units for many of the seminars.

"Central Dakota Ag Day has provided a wealth of educational information to farmers and ranchers for many years, and we believe this year's program will do the same," says Jeff Gale, Extension agent, agriculture and natural resources in Foster County.

Gale continues, "This year, we've extended the program content to include topics related to horticulture, food and culture. We believe there is something for everyone in this year's program."

The Central Dakota Ag Day program is organized by NDSU Extension agents in Foster, Eddy, Wells, Griggs, Barnes, Stutsman and Sheridan counties, as well as staff from NDSU's CREC.

No registration is required. Lunch will be provided.
