Linton holds back Hornet boys by three

HWC came from six points down late in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get the final points needed as they dropped a 53-50 game to Linton-HMB on Saturday, December 9, in Linton.

The Lions got the quick 4-0 lead as Gentry Richter had two field goals. Avery Williams scored two and Tallen Thorson added a three, as the Hornets took the lead. Tyler Swang scored four points late in the first, as HWC led, 12-9, after one.

Noah Ziegler's three- pointer moved the Hornet lead to six early in the second, but Richter and Jace Jochim both had two-and- ones for the Lions, tying the game at 15. The Lions finished the half on an 8-2 run, with Jochim scoring four, giving the home team a 27-21 halftime lead.

Thorson started the second half with back-to-back threes, knotting the score at 27. Jochim scored six points for Linton-HMB in the third, giving the Lions a 39-33 lead after three.

Jochim continued to have the hot hand in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points in the fourth and giving the Lions a 49-43 lead. HWC responded with a Thorson free throw, a Williams driving layup and a steal and layup by Thorson to cut the lead to 49-47. Justin Tschosik got a layup for the Lions, and then Thorson drained his fourth three of the game with 11 seconds left to pull HWC to within 51-50. Kashton Moser drained two free throws to move the score to 53-50, and then a HWC shot at the buzzer fell just short, securing the Lion victory.

Jochim scored 24 for the Lions, helping Linton-HMB to a win in their season opener. Richter was also in doubles with 11.

The Hornets got 20 points from Thorson and 13 from Williams, as they dropped their first game of the season.
