Journalist, community leader Stock dies at 82

Allen V. Stock, age 82, of Carrington, ND, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2023, from 5:00PM-7:00PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Allen's Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 Poplar Ave, Carrington, ND. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden, ND, following the service and fellowship.

Allen was born Aug 30, 1941, in Harvey, ND, the son of Albert & Myrtle Stock, Fessenden, ND. He graduated from Fessenden High School in 1959 and was involved in many school activities. He attended Minot State University and Minot Business College before becoming the Editor of the Wells County Free Press at the age of 21.

Allen married Patricia Berg on October 5, 1963, recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they have 4 children, Susette, Shelly, Tim & Tony. In 1976, Allen & Pattie purchased the Foster County Independent and they moved their family to Carrington, ND. Allen proudly ran the Foster County Independent for 46 years.

Allen was very active in the community, he rarely missed community and school activities, whether attending or taking photographs. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiwanis Club, North Dakota Newspaper Association, Chamber of Commerce, Carrington Lions, Jaycees, Foster County Fair Board. His hobbies included cars, gardening, music, camping and spending time with his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Pattie; children Susette (Linus) Allmaras, New Rockford, ND; Shelly (Brad) Skytland, Carrington, ND; Tim (Amy) Stock, Waconia, MN; and Tony (Tami) Stock, Frazee, MN. Grandchildren; Rachel Allmaras, Renelle Allmaras, Rebecca (Alex) Jarrett, Teddy Allmaras, Jordan (Kelsey) Skytland, Taylor (Josey) Skytland, Brenna Skytland, Morgan Stock, Mason Stock, Rylee Stock and Harlee Stock. Great-grandchildren; Myles Thompson, Motley Skytland, River, Rhen, Amelia Skytland and Luca Littlefield. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother Lorene Stock; and his sister Judy Einarson and brother-in-law Stefan Einarson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Sheila Krueger.
