Thunder get past Washburn at JCC

M-P-B took on a quality opponent from District 6 at the Jamestown Civic Center Friday, January 5, and came out of the fray with a 49-46 win.

The Washburn Cardinals came into their matchup with the Thunder with just one loss on the season after a four-game streak to begin 2023-24, and both teams played exciting back-and-forth basketball on the JCC hardwood.

Six-foot-five senior forward Rylen Wick scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half, and the Thunder's offense also held off Washburn courtesy of 14 points in the game by Gage Magstadt.

Alex Retterath led all players with 21 points for Washburn.

M-P-B now sits at 5-3 and have won five of their last six games. They started District 2 play on January 12 against Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter.

On Tuesday, the Thunder will play at Warwick, then host Kidder County in Medina on Thursday in another district tilt.
