M-P-B takes win over Ellendale; #8 E-K-M rolls

M-P-B moved their way up the District 2 standings ever-so-slightly with a 59-51 triumph over Ellendale on the road Thursday, January 11, earning their second straight win in league contests.

Their run of luck came crashing down five nights later in Medina, with the eighth-ranked E-K-M Rebels running away with the win, 60-35, last Tuesday night.

The Thunder took a 10-6 lead after one quarter against the Cardinals, and built their cushion incrementally from each period onward to take the eight-point win.

Senior Kalen Kinzell had 11 points for M-P-B, who got their third win of the year in 12 tries. Maddie Gefroh trailed closely with 10 points, and the trio of Alaina Bosche, Brynn Sorenson and Allison Thomas all pitched in for nine.

Ellendale's Norton sisters, Kali and Macy, combined for slightly over half of the Cardinal total with 26 points. The former finished with 15, while the latter had 11. Mya Glynn also had eight for EHS, who saw their record dip to 5-6 following a 4-0 start to the season, and 1-4 in District 2.

One of the favorites to grab one of Region 1's two state tournament spots invaded the MHS Gym on January 16, and flexed their muscles in a 25-point blowout.

Statistics from the Thunder's loss to E-K-M were not available at press time.

The Rebels now sit at 10-3 and are a perfect 6-0 in district play. Their three losses came to #2 Langdon/Edmore/Munich, along with #6 Maple River and #7 Kenmare/Bowbells.

Now 3-10 and 2-3 in District 2, the Thunder are trying to make a late season run towards the middle of the conference pack. They hope to start Tuesday with a game against Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter in Medina, then travel to Division A Carrington on Thursday before finishing their district schedule next Monday, January 29 in Medina against Kidder County.
