Shorthanded M-P-B splits with KC, Lions

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan, playing without their top offensive player, still managed to get one win in two District 2 matchups this past week.

With senior Rylen Wick on the shelf due to injury, the Thunder took a 41-28 win on January 18 in Medina over the Kidder County Wolves, and fell to seventh-ranked Linton-HMB on the road, 60-46, this past Monday, January 22.

In the low-scoring opening triumph, Terek Kinzell's 13 points provided the exact margin of victory for the Thunder against KCHS.

Collin Zimmerman had 12 points for Kidder County in their loss, which dropped them to 1-10 for the season and 1-3 in District 2 play.

Four evenings after that, the Thunder got set to play the Lions, under first-year Head Coach Alex Jangula. The new bench boss took over for N.D. Hall of Fame Coach Dan Carr after his more than four decades guiding the Lion program.

By all appearances, Jangula has a good foundation from which to build upon, as his veteran squad took a 14-point win in Linton.

Scoring balance helped move LHMB to 10-1 and 3-1 on the campaign. The Lions were paced by 13 points from Kash Moser, while Gentry Richter and Jace Jochim put up 12 points each and Kaden Masset 11 more.

Gage Magstadt's 16 points topped the M-P-B (8-4, 2-1) collective effort. Kinzell finished with 12 points and Chase Ova 11.

Tuesday, the Thunder entertain South Border in Medina, and will travel to Ellendale for a Groundhog Day matchup Friday, February 2. The Thunder and Cardinals played in last year's Region 3 championship game, won by M-P-B.

Both games count in the District 2 standings.
