Archers converge in Carrington

CHS hosted its home tournament for the 2024 archery season on Saturday, Jan. 27. With action in both gyms and over 300 archers competing, it was a busy day.

After nine flights of both 3D and bullseye shooting, Connor Cose of Rolla emerged as the top male archer overall in both divisions. He scored a 288 in 3D with 23 tens and also took the top spot among high school boys. NR-S archer Koy Zieman had the same score but three fewer tens, and finished first in middle school boys and second overall.

Cose's score of 285 in the bullseye division was two points better than Barnes County North archer Blayn Elston, who finished with a 283 and first place among middle school boys.

On the girls' side, Griggs County Central's Olivia Piatz was the best archer in the bullseye division. She finished with a 282 and earned both the overall female archer award and the first place medal among middle school girls.

Mackenzie Nogowski of North Sargent had a 19-point edge on her nearest opponent in the 3D tournament. Nogowski scored a 290 and took home both the gold medal in the high school girls' division and the overall female archer award in 3D.

Seventh grader Elissa Estenson of Rolla was second overall among the female 3D archers. Her 272 was good enough for a gold medal in the middle school girls' division.

Hayden House and Brekka Kuss had the top score among CHS archers in the bullseye division, each hitting a 271. Kuss finished in sixth place overall among high school girls and House finished in eighth place among high school boys.

Three other female archers finished in the high school bullseye division top 10: Nela Mckibben (267), Kelsi Neuman (264), and Hailee Weber (263) who finished eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. Other top 10 finishers for the Cardinals in bullseye included Vera Wittman (266), who was sixth overall among middle school girls; and Emma Mertz, who scored a 216 and landed in sixth place among elementary girls. A total of 53 archers competed in bullseye for Carrington.

Hailee Weber had the top score for the Cardinals in the 3D division, and her 267 got her a medal in the high school girls' division. She finished fifth overall. Emma Mertz received the fourth place medal in the elementary girls' division with a 221.

The other top 10 finisher for Carrington in the 3D division was Brekka Kuss, who scored a 258 and took seventh overall among high school girls.
