The focus now for the Carrington Cardinal boys is to continue making improvement, and to keep spirits up heading into the postseason wars.
The Cards went down to defeat in their two most recent games, a 64-44 loss to the Northern Cass Jaguars in Hunter on January 26, and a 72-40 Region 2 loss to Thompson last Tuesday in the Tommies' gym.
Josh Bickett led Carrington (1-12, 0-5 Region 2) in scoring in both contests, finishing with 15 points against Northern Cass and 13 in the Thompson game.
Senior Grady Shipman also had 11 points in the first contest, while Taylen Mehring scored nine and 12 points in the defeats, all coming via the three-pointer, of which he had a total of seven combined.
Northern Cass improved to 12-2 on the season with the victory, finishing off a nine-game winning streak that ended with a loss to Kindred on Tuesday. Four Jaguars scored in double figures, led by 15 points from senior guard Landon Moser.
The Cards played the Tommies close after eight minutes, but those upset hopes came crashing to earth in the second quarter with a 28-6 Tommie run.
Thompson inched back towards the .500 mark with their win, moving to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in Region 2.
Drew Overby scored 18 points for the Tommies, who also got good outings from Karter Peterson (15 points) and Gavin Krogstad (11).
The Cards will entertain the Lisbon Broncos tonight (February 5) in nonregion play, and are scheduled to play a makeup game at Rugby on February 8 before going to Hillsboro to face the HCV Burros the following night in Region 2.
