Owning the glass: TGU's Hanson has 33 points, 26 boards vs. HWC

Harvey-Wells County went on the road for their final regular season game of the year, and ran into a hot shooting Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) Titan squad.

The home team amassed 24 first quarter points, and Sage Hanson scored 33 points as the Titans won their 11th game of the season, handling HWC, 68-36 on Monday, February 12, in Towner.

The first half was owned by TGU, as they scored 24 points in the opening quarter and 40 in the first half. Hanson and Jaxon Nelson combined for 18 first quarter points, helping the Titans to a 24-15 lead after one. Tyler Swang scored eight and Jaxon Feist added five for HWC in the first.

The Titans continued the momentum into the second, and Hanson was a huge part of it. The 6'7" sophomore added 10 more points with three field goals and 4-4 from the line shooting. Bowen Seykora came off the bench to score six more for TGU, as they led by 19 at the half. The Titan defense held HWC to just six second quarter points.

The TGU defense continued to slow down the Hornets into the third, allowing just six points for the quarter again. The Titan offense also slowed down, getting six points from Hanson and a three pointer from Ty Schmitt, moving the lead to 50-27 after three.

HWC scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, but managed just four more points the rest of the game. The Titans' Hanson had eight more points and Karson Haman added six more as TGU cruised to a 32-point victory.

Hanson led all players on the night with 33 points, while Haman and Nelson each added 10 points. Swang led HWC with 17 points. Hanson also dominated the boards with eight offensive and 18 defensive boards for a total of 26.

The Titans were 26-of-50 shooting for just over 50%, while HWC was held to just 15-of-57 shooting for 26%, including connecting on just one of 16 three-point attempts. HWC had arguably their best ball control, committing only eight turnovers in the game, compared to nine for TGU.

With the win, TGU moves their District 8 record to 5-5 and overall record to 11-6, while the Hornets drop to 5-5 in the district and 10-9.
