The long slog of Division A competition, featuring a top three in Region 2 taking turns running roughshod over the bottom three, meant that victories have been hard to come by for the Carrington boys this season.
So, they met up with an old Class B, Region 3 rival from just down Highway 281, and renewed pleasantries with the M-P-B Thunder.
The Cards owned the odd-numbered quarters, but the Thunder "evened" things up with their performances in the second and final periods.
And, despite not shooting a single free throw, Carrington got win number two of the season, 44-43, in the East Gym over M-P-B Thursday night, February 15.
The Bickett cousins, Josh (15 points) and Ryder (10) had the major share of the offense, but it was a few clutch three-pointers by Grady Idland with three on the evening, and Taylen Mehring's two bombs, that helped put the Cards over the top.
Rylen Wick led the Thunder (11-8) with 19 points, and Roper Foerderer had eight. M-P-B did their job from the line, going 9-for-12 to get within distance of taking the road victory.
Carrington now sits at 2-18 with their win, and closed out their Region 2 schedule with a February 23 game in Grafton and another tonight (February 26) at the Devils Lake Sports Center.
The Thunder began play Friday night, February 23, as the fifth seed in the District 2 Boys' Tournament from the Jamestown Civic Center. They took on #4 LaMoure/Litchville-Marion (also 11-8) in the second game of the tourney.
Other games in the first round matched up top seeded E-K-M (16-3) against #8 seed and play-in winner Kidder County (2-18), #2 Linton-HMB (16-3) versus #7 Napoleon/G-S (6-13) and #3 Ellendale (12-7) taking on #6 South Border (8-11).
