Third P-B elementary bond referendum fails

For the third time, an attempt to pass a bond referendum which would allow a new addition and other building upgrades to Pingree-Buchanan Elementary School in Buchanan has been voted down at the ballot box.

Unofficial results posted to the P-B school website at www.pingree-buchanan.k12.nd.us showed 132 votes in favor (52.4% yes), and 120 against (47.6% no), the $5.165 million bond issue from voting conducted Wednesday, March 13, at the elementary school.

To pass, the referendum would have had to receive 60% majority support, or 20 more votes as calculated by the overall voter turnout.

According to the P-B Elementary newsletter published on March 6, in the event of the referendum's failure, the district will not legally be able to hold another vote on the issue until December. This will mean that costs for any future bond-related building costs and repairs will rise.

Canvassing for the March 13 election results will be conducted at the next regular board meeting of the Pingree-Buchanan school district Wednesday, April 10, in Pingree at 6 p.m.

Superintendent Amber Krapp wishes to thank all P-B district patrons for voting in the referendum.
