The daily grind

Schroeder draws upon wildland fire experiences in tree business

Jesse Schroeder has been in the arena when things get hairy, and experienced the excitement and tension that comes with those scenarios.

The 2002 CHS graduate and veteran of the United States Navy has been a world traveler as part of the Special Warfare Command, and used those skills to combat wildfires in Montana when his service ended.

Now, as an arborist, he owns and operates Schroeder Sawyer Service, LLC, a tree removal and stump grinding business out of his home at 305 Main St. in Carrington.

"I learned how to cut trees while I was a wildland firefighter with the Flathead Hotshots out of Hungry Horse, Mont.," said Schroeder. "And, I took that experience I gained and decided to bring that skillset back to North Dakota."

Schroeder also spent some time in Missoula working for a small logging/arborist business, and learned how to climb trees.

Schroeder says he does most of his work from the bucket truck, and specializes in stump grinding, tree climbing and snow removal.

"Every job and every tree is different, time-wise," he said. "A big cottonwood could take a couple of days, where a medium-sized pine tree could take just a few hours."

He has worked in the past with fellow contractor Wes Miller of Wes Miller Tree Service with cutting, spraying and planting trees, though their businesses are separate.

He is divorced and is the father of three children, daughters Jaidyn and Jamisyn, and son Tristan Schroeder.

"In the future, I would like to expand my business working around Central North Dakota," Schroeder said.
