Spartans win state amateur crown

The Carrington Spartans, named for the past Kensal High School mascot and composed of area basketball players (plus one Australian), competed in the State Amateur Tournament at the Minot State University Dome March 22-24.

The Spartans played in the Commercial Division, which is the second highest classification, and went 5-0 over the three days to win the state championship.

Team personnel includes, left to right: Caleb Rogelstad, Stan Schauer, Easton Page, Jameson Kramer, Sam Grayson, Scott Tweed, Marc VanRay and Dave Johnson. Not pictured: Ross Florhaug.

Schauer, from Fessenden, was named MVP of the tournament, while Carrington native Page was named to the All-Tourney Team.
