A reward for honesty was received this week by Luverne Graham for his help in returning a pocketbook to his owner. The reward was in the form of a bill of generous donation sent to him by mail.
Terence Short and James Eberhardt have been named winners for Juanita High School in the 1949 essay contest sponsored by the Flax Institute of the United States. Each has been awarded a five dollar cash prize in addition to a certificate.
Election of officers took place at the last meeting of the McCreary-Bonderud post of the VFW, with Bob O’Neil named to the office of commander. Other officers are Oliver Semmens senior vice commander, Robert Montgomery junior vice-commander, Martin Edinger, quartermaster, LeRoy Tollefson chaplain, Dr. R. F. Gilliand surgeon and James R. Smith trustee.
States Attorney Thomas A. Roney has been engaged to deliver the Memorial Day address at exercises planned for Carrington on Monday, May 30.
Competing against the best teams in the state, the Carrington Cardinal track team scored three points at the annual Rotary meet at Devils Lake. Ed Reisnour, ace Cardinal pole vaulter, scored all of Carrington’s points on a second place in his specialty. For the first time in some years the Cardinals were represented in golf. Dan Heintz and Harold Kively competed at Devils Lake.
Diplomas will be awarded to thirty-three seniors at Carrington High School graduation exercises at the high school gymnasium on Thursday, May 26, at 8 p.m., this event bringing to a close the current school term.
Betty Fornshell has been named valedictorian and Anna Lofstedt, salutatorian of this year’s class.
In the first Tri-County league game of the season here Sunday, Carrington went on a hitting spree to take Minnewaukan 26 to 6.

Candidates for school boards in Carrington and in the area are advised that Wednesday is the final day for filing for election. Clerks of the boards must be notified in writing of intentions to run for names to be included on the ballot.
In Carrington, board member O.C, Thurlow has indicated that he will again be a candidate. Walter Nystuen had announced earlier that he will not seek re-election.
Power companies take special pains to make sure that nothing or nobody gets into places where they do not belong. There’s a good reason for that - those places are extremely dangerous areas of high electrical voltage. There isn’t much they can do when a pair of birds alight on a high voltage circuit breaker and decide to build a nest. That is apparently what happened at the Carrington substation Monday morning of last week. It resulted in two electrocuted birds and a two-hour power outage for Tri-County Electric patrons in the Carrington area.
James E. Bredahl, son of Gordon A. Bredahl, Kensal, was promoted to Army specialist four while serving in the First Armored Division in Erlangen, Germany.
As a result of making five qualifying throw in college javelin competition, Steve Held of Carrington will compete in the NCAA National Track Finals at Austin, Texas, June 6 - 8. He is competing for University of Arizona.
Honor students at McHenry High School are Wanda Tufte, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Stanley Tufte, and Judy Hoyt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elery Hoyt, co-valedictorians. Ardell Olson and Sue Stangeland are co-salutatorians.
Mary Beth DeVillers has been named valedictorian of Kensal High School for the class of 1974, Douglas Lipetzky is salutatorian.

Sharon Zwinger will receive the Nurse Hero of the Year award at the Heritage Center for using CPR and saving the life of a Jamestown woman after an accident on Highway 281.
US Highway 52 from Harvey, southeast to Jct. of ND-200 south of Fessenden, will be resurfaced this June.
The Chamber Area of Commerce paid a visit to welcome the new owners of the HiWay Drive-In, Curt and Twila Klein, who bought the business from Marilyn and Tom Dahl.
Sykeston POD (Problems of Democracy) students held a “mock trial” and had a taste of what it was like to go to trial last week. They then went to the Wells County Courthouse to visit Judge Bekken’s court to see first hand the judicial process at work.
Three students from the area were among 700 who graduated from Minot State University on May 7. They were Diane Murnane, Carrington, BS in Criminal Justice; David Olson, Carrington, master of arts in teaching mathematics and Jean Luttschwager, Grace City, Master of Arts in teaching mathematics.
Tara Copenhaver, Ann Johnson, Jennifer Short, Sara VandeHoven and Sarah Willyard, all Carrington High School students will attend Flickertail Girls State, May 31 at the University of North Dakota campus.
Carrington’s Sara Klein set a new meet record and a new Bismarck Bowl record in the 300 meter hurdles, Friday, April 30, at the CHS girls combined for the seventh place finish at the Bismarck Century Invitational Track Meet.
Area Engagements - Lisa Sedlacek and Dan Metzger, together with their parents, Jerry and Mary Sedlacek of Warren and Steve and Jane Metzger, of Carrington, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage. A June 12, wedding is planned in First Lutheran Church at Warren.
