The meet was not on the schedule but with a rain forecasted for the rest of the last week, the Panthers threw together a five-team event, the Midstate Quad, on Wednesday, May 1, in Rugby.

Kiwanis/Lions, Carrington

The Hornets attended the Carrington Kiwanis/Lions Varsity meet on Saturday, May 4. The Hornets had some nice performances with a list of personal bests, but the colder, windy weather got the best of them in the events in which they were close to qualifying individuals and relays.

HWC picked up event wins by Carson Heilman in the 300 hurdles and 400 dash, as well as Keaton Keller in the javelin to finish in fourth place overall. The Hornet girls picked up a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay, finishing just .57 seconds from meeting the standard, and had a nice day overall, finishing third out of 10 teams.

Other top placers for the Hornets were Noah Ziegler, who finished second in the long jump, Braylee Keller finishing second in the javelin, and Christalea Wagner with a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

Earning Stingers (personal bests) for their performances at the meet include Westin Opdahl (pole vault), Ashton Martin (shot put, discus), Wyatt Korb (300 hurdles), Carson Heilman (300 hurdles, 400 dash), Noah Ziegler (400 dash), Alex Smith (400 dash), Ella Allmaras (pole vault), Tenley Grossman (4x400 relay, 300 hurdles), Emersyn Wolfe (400 dash, javelin), Addisyn Faul (4x100 relay), Braylee Keller (100 dash, 4x200 relay), Layne Allmaras (400 dash, 100 hurdles, long jump), Brianna Heilman (4x400 relay) and Maci Reutter (200 dash, 4x100 relay).

Thorson at Howard Wood

The Howard Wood Relays, held in Sioux Falls May 3-4, showcase some of the best track and field talent in the upper Midwest, and Thorson was able to compete at the meet on both Friday and Saturday in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Friday, Thorson competed in the 110m high hurdles. On his way to a heat victory, Thorson stumbled between the 7th and 8th hurdles, and did not qualify for finals.

Saturday was a better day for Thorson, as he won his 300 meter hurdle heat in 40.20, which was good enough for 3rd overall.
