Boote qualifies for CNFR

Recent DSU grad to compete in June; Beck rides for Blue Hawk women -

Dickinson State University senior Jory Boote proved himself good enough with a lasso to punch his ticket to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR).

Jory, the son of Alan and Nikki Boote of Binford, will be making the trip to Casper, Wyo., June 7-15, thanks to placing second in Tie-Down Roping in the Great Plains Region standings for the season.

Boote's score of 515 points puts him just behind event leader Luke Mavity (572) of Black Hills State University (Spearfish, S.D.).

He is currently in fifth place in Team Roping as the header with 293 points, and also qualified for the CNFR in that event. In Casper, he will be roping with Jaxton Starr of Mid-Plains Community College, a school in North Platte, Neb.

Boote is currently in fifth place in the men's All-Around as of April 29, with a total of 808 points. The overall leader is Austin Madison of BHSU (1,382).

As a team, the Blue Hawk men's rodeo squad is in fifth place (1,871 points) in the Great Plains Region, behind top team Mid-Plains with 4,788. MPCC is followed by BHSU (4,710.5), Iowa Central CC of Fort Dodge, Ia. (4,325), and South Dakota State (3,130).

The Great Plains Region encompasses schools from North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. In the fall, DSU and other GPR schools travel to five rodeos, while the spring slate has four.

Boote just graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science Managment from DSU, and plans to follow in his father's and uncle's footsteps in the auctioneering field. He says he also plans to continue in rodeo, whether it be amateur or professionally.

Also with the Blue Hawks, women's barrel racer Emily Beck of Fessenden has also hit the GPR rodeo season hard as well.

Emily, the daughter of Tim and Dawn Beck, sat in 12th position in the event per the April 29 standings with 175 points.

Her Blue Hawk women's team sat in second place in the GPR with 1,993 points, behind BHSU's 3,140.5.
