Hornets in home stretch

The Hornet track and field team traveled to Rugby on Friday, May 17, and competed in the North Central Regional Track and Field meet at Johnsen Field.

The regional meet was the last chance for any individuals and relays to qualify for the state meet, and any athlete that met the state standard or finished in the top three in an event would qualify for the state meet Thursday-Saturday, May 23-25, at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

The Hornets had a nice day overall, with the boys finishing in 3rd place with 111 points, and the girls in 4th place with 75 points. The meet was won by the Bottineau boys and the Rugby girls.

Qualifying during this meet for the HWC boys were Tallen Thorson (400 dash, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Keaton Keller (300 hurdles, javelin), Noah Ziegler (triple jump), Kayl Sieg (javelin) and the 4x400 relay team of Dylan Heitmann, Alex Smith, Andrew Williams and Ziegler.

The HWC female qualifiers on the day included Christalea Wagner (200 dash, 300 hurdles), Addisyn Faul (300 hurdles), Braylee Keller (javelin) and the 4x400 relay team of Maci Reutter, Breanna Heilman, Faul and Wagner.
