Post 25 Redbirds come back to edge MayPort, 8-7

Kyle Johnson went 4-for-4 with a double, and the Carrington Redbirds of John Raymond O'Hara Post 25 took a wild one in Mayville, 8-7, over the host MayPort Post 8 Patriots on Wednesday, June 19.

Johnson got Post 25 on the board in the top of the first inning with a single to bring home Grady Shipman, and the Pats got the equalizer in the bottom of the frame. In the second, the Birds' aluminum came alive for four runs on five hits, but even that wasn't enough as Redbird pitching wildness allowed Post 8 to get back into contention and eventually force another tie, 5-5.

The score sat at 7-6 in favor of MayPort in the top of the sixth, when Johnson doubled and would later score. Max Whitman also had a hit in the inning, and came across to give Post 25 the lead. Reliever Josh Bickett pitched five mostly-efficient innings to emerge as the pitcher of record. He gave up four hits and two runs and had five strikeouts.

Today (July 1), Post 25 is scheduled to host the Devils Lake Storm at 5:00, and they travel to Jamestown July 5-7 for the Phil Brown Classic.
