Bowdon 125th, Market and Bash

Just like McHenry, another Independent-area community is celebrating 125 years.

Bowdon will be celebrating their quasquicentennial Friday-Sunday, July 12-14, with a full slate of events scheduled for the three days.

One of several North Dakota towns named by Englishman Richard Sykes (Sykeston, Chaseley, Edgeley and Alfred being the others), Bowdon, founded in 1899, has an estimated population of 137, from a peak of 348 in both the 1940 and 1950 census counts.

Friday events include the Fireman’s Supper, a Bowdon remembrance, DJ dance and Fireworks sponsored by Wholesale Ag Products.

On Saturday, there will be the 5K Fun Run, parade, All-School Reunion, cornhole tournament, car show, duck race, BDCI buffet meal and the concert featuring “Tripwire”.

Sunday will feature a brunch at the Community Center, and services at Bowdon Church of God (10 a.m.) and Bowdon Lutheran Church (10:30). The celebration meal will be held afterwards at Bowdon Lutheran at 12:30 p.m.
