School special election Tuesday, July 9

Mill levy would fund school renovations, maintenance -

Local voters have one more decision to make this summer.

On Tuesday, July 9, the Carrington School District will hold a special election. The one question on the ballot: should the school district increase the building fund levy from 5 mills to 10 mills.

If at least 60 percent of voters approve, the school board will have the authority to levy up to 10 mills each year for facilities. The intent, school officials say, is to plan ahead and save for future repairs and maintenance to ensure that Carrington has safe, quality facilities.

"We have to take care of what we have, and it needs to be here for generations to come," said Superintendent Janelle Helm.

The election polling place for Carrington Public School District #49 is located in the main hallway of the Carrington School (use door 11). Polls are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9.
