Wieland new at Garr Dental Center

Occasionally, familiarity with the area is the biggest factor in a first job search.

Samantha Wieland played her fair share of games in Carrington as a high school athlete for Barnes County North, and she comes to the Central City and Garr Dental Center.

Wieland will work alongside Dr. Ben Garr at GDC, filling the second dental practitioner role which was vacant for an extended period after Dr. Kali Anderson moved to Jamestown.

"I'm excited to work with the young, the old, and everyone in between," she says.

A native of Rogers, she graduated from BCN in 2016, and earned her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology with a Pre-Dental emphasis from UND in 2020.

She moved to suburban Denver, Colo., to begin her dental school curriculum at the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado in Aurora. Wieland graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in May, 2024.

"I knew I wanted to come back to this area," said Wieland, when asked about applying for the position at Garr Dental.

Wieland began seeing patients on July 8, and she says she's been "pretty busy" since she started.

She is appreciative of Garr's help in getting her feet underneath her as a dentist.

"He's been super great at mentoring me, just with giving advice and answering questions since I'm fresh out of school," she says.

Wieland currently lives on a farm north of Courtenay with her fiancé, David Fletcher, and their furry companion, golden retriever Missy.
