A very-young Carrington Redbirds 12U Cal Ripken baseball team advanced to the semifinal round at the State 'B' Tournament for that age division Friday-Sunday, July 18-20, in Velva. Carrington has just two 12-year olds on their roster, with the remainder at 11 years of age.
The 'Birds took an 11-6 win over the Beulah/Hazen North Stars in the first game on July 18 in pool play, then dropped a close 4-3 decision to the Star City Stampede (Velva) later that evening. On Saturday, they played just one pool play contest, defeating Harvey by a 14-4 score.
As the top team in their pool, the Redbirds drew Kidder County in the semifinal round Sunday, but their season ended with a 10-5 defeat, putting an end to the summer with a 22-12 overall record. Thompson defeated Kidder County for the championship.
