Hansen qualifies for State 'B' golf

Shoots 84 to make field in Fargo —

If the Carrington girls' golf team needed a statement for a recruitment push, Molly Hansen may have just provided it.

The Cardinal junior shot an 18-hole score of 84 at the first Region 2 individual qualifier at CrossRoads Monday, August 19, to achieve an automatic berth to the State 'B' Tournament at Fargo Country Club September 30 and October 1.

Hansen had identical scores of 42 on both the front and back nine holes to finish in a tie for eighth overall.

Sister Cally Hansen played a nine-hole round as part of the junior varsity division, and she carded a total of 42.

A total of 12 golfers qualified for the State 'B' at the CrossRoads meet, including the entirety of Fargo Oak Grove's six-player varsity lineup, three players from Kindred and two from Central Cass, along with the elder Hansen.

The Grovers' Josie Brantner led her team and was the meet winner with a 75, followed by Ellie Zuger (78), Lauren Holstad (79), Josie Geiger (82), Claire Lee (83), and Sylvie Brantner (86).

The Kindred Vikings' qualifiers were Kaylin Goldsmith (76), Bailey Thuenick (79) and Lauren Mueller (84), and the Squirrels got Kenley Toop (86) and Jaci Verkuehlen (87) into the state field.

Next on the schedule is a meet at Cooperstown Golf Club Tuesday, August 27, and the Cards will be off until the following Wednesday, September 4, when they travel to Maple River Golf Club in Mapleton. Both meets start at 10 a.m.
