The Official Newspaper for Foster County

New community pasta event seeks contestants

Your local newspaper is teaming up with your local pasta producer to put together something the Central City has never seen before.

Introducing 8th Avenue and Main Pasta Fest, a community event that blends together fantastic food and Carrington camaraderie.

It's Central City's first potluck pasta party, set for National Pasta Day – Thursday, Oct. 17.

Downtown businesses have the opportunity to host a chef or team, who prepares a dish and serves it to attendees at their place of business. Space will also be made available in the library for businesses and teams without a downtown storefront or "host".

All the pasta for the event will be provided by 8th Avenue Food and Provisions, home of Dakota Growers Pasta Company, and each contestant will prepare a dish using a different shape of pasta.

The public will then be invited to come out and vote for the top dish.

The Foster County Independent is your host, and 8th Avenue Food and Provisions is the prime sponsor.

Held in the heart of downtown Carrington, and more specifically along 8th Avenue and Main Street, Pasta Fest will be a feast for your eyes and taste buds!

October is National Pasta Month, a time to highlight the versatility of pasta as a convenient, healthy and budget friendly meal or side. This event will feature some of the more than 100 shapes of pasta made right here in Carrington, as well as showcase the local businesses and organizations that make our community great.

The Independent will produce a cookbook featuring all the recipes from the event, which will be available for sale that evening. The local newspaper will also have weekly coverage of the chefs, sponsors and pasta dishes to be sampled throughout the coming weeks. Find it all in print and online at fosterconews.com.

Anyone interested in preparing a pasta dish or sponsoring a team to compete in the event should contact Amy Wobbema at (701) 302-0578 or Emily Giffey at (701) 897-0272. The deadline to enter is Sept. 20, to allow enough time to feature each of the teams and their sponsors in the paper.

Pasta lovers of all ages are welcome to sample the dishes and vote for their favorites from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Be there or be angel hair.
