'Orr'iginals kicks off cross country season

Cross country teams from throughout the state descended on the venue that will host both the first and last meets for many programs.

Carrington and Griggs/Midkota were two of the Independent-area teams in action at the 'Orr'iginals Invitational at Parkhurst Recreation Area Saturday, August 24. The course will also be the site of the state Class A and B meets in late October.

At the 'Orr'iginals, CHS senior Kenadie Pazdernik hit the finish line for a top-10 run in a fraction of a second past 21 minutes (21.00.23) in the varsity girls' division (5,000 meters) for the Cardinals.

The Titans put their top girls' runners all in the 4K JV division, and Midkota eighth grader Kadence Spickler won that race with a time of 17:55.72, edging out West Fargo's Grace Duffy by just over two seconds. Teammate Tianna McCardle was fifth, running 18:12.64.

In the various divisions, top-50 runs also came from the Cards' Kahri Kollman (22nd, 13:43.30), Grace Inglish (30th, 14:10.13) and Paige Fiebiger (37th, 14:20.46), with those coming in the 3K junior high girls' race. Junior highers on the boys' side to earn that distinction were Cainen Stangeland of G-M (41st, 12:46.33) and Henry Pavelko of CHS (43rd, 12:58.78).

On Tuesday, August 27, Carrington and G-M ran at the Northwood meet. Upcoming meets on the Cards' schedule are the CHS home meet on Tuesday, September 3, at CrossRoads beginning at 2 p.m., and at Grahams Island Saturday, September 7, at 11 a.m.
