First violation of city junk ordinance issued

The City of Carrington has been working with residents over the summer to help clean up our community. Carrington Police Chief Chris Bittmann and Carrington's city attorney are assessing individual properties on a case-by-case basis.

Bittmann has been taking in to effect one's means, effort and time it takes to clean up a property that is in violation of Chapter 34.

On September 9, the first violation under Chapter 34 was given out. A $300 fine was issued to the Carrington resident. This fine is suspended for a period of 360 days, provided the resident's yard is cleaned up within 60 days and follows the city ordinance for 360 days.

"The main goal of having a clean city is to deter crime and infestation," Bittmann said Wednesday.

The Carrington City Council and Chief of Police appreciate those who have worked hard to clean up their properties.

The full city ordinances are available on the City of Carrington's website. Chapter 14 is available to read at the following link: https://carringtonnd.com/documents/514/Chapter_34_Storage_of_Junk_.pdf
