Cards blank Tommies, earn second victory

The emergence of another offensive option for the Carrington volleyball team could make them more dangerous down the road.

Sophomore Calleigh Hewitt made a believer out of the Thompson Tommies, swinging for 14 kills in the Cardinals' 3-0 sweep at Thompson Thursday evening, September 5.

As has become usual in their victories, the Cards had offensive distribution throughout the rotation. Isabel Wendel was among seven different CHS players to record a kill, finishing with eight, and she and second setter Brynn Smith had 38 combined assists.

Edyn Hoornaert had two blocks, as did Wendel, and finished with seven kills. Libero Kenadie Pazdernik led the Cards with 26 digs, with Mercedes Lura adding 22 of her own.

Carrington played in the Valley City Optimist Tournament this past Saturday, September 14, at various venues in the City of Bridges.

The Cards host another Region 2 team, Park River/Fordville-Lankin, in the East Gym on Tuesday, and resume the annual Highway 281 rivalry with two-time defending Region 4 champion NR-S on Thursday in New Rockford.
