Runners travel to Grahams Island

The eighth edition of the Grahams Island Invitational cross country meet was held at the state park west of Devils Lake Saturday, September 7, and hosted by the DLHS Firebirds.

Carrington and NR-S were the local teams in attendance at the event, which featured 11 schools and some of the top runners in the central portion of the state.

Kenadie Pazdernik took home fourth place in the 5,000-meter varsity girls' division in 21:04.13, behind race winner Hannah Senechal of Rugby (20:07.42) and Devils Lake runners Riley Schmiess and Tenley Triepke in second and third. The Cards' Macy Fiebiger had a top 20 placing, finishing 17th with a 23:11.77.

For the second week in a row, Kahri Kollman was the junior varsity girls' champion, taking the GII 3,000-meter victory in 13:13.80. Grace Inglish (13:48.52) and Anna VanRay (14:08.18) also had top 10 runs by coming across in fourth and sixth place.

Competing for the Cardinal varsity boys, Sam Garr was the top finisher, running 36th with a 22:55.19 time.

In the JV division, Gavyn Steadmon was in the 10th spot in 12:19.53, and brother Chayse was just over 10 seconds shy of that time (12:29.55) in taking 13th.
