The cause of the fire which did heavy damage in the Getty Cleaners and Furriers building Sunday afternoon has not been determined. The fire started at about 3 p.m. Sunday, and before the flames had been extinguished, the main floor in the central part of the building was badly damaged, and clothes in the pressing room were badly burned.
In a critical condition in the Carrington Hospital is Darrell Peterson, 18, Bordulac, who was struck by a car on the highway at Melville at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday. He was brought to the hospital by Knott Ambulance and was still unconscious Wednesday afternoon.
Casselton smothered the Carrington Cardinals by a score of 51-0 Friday night at Casselton. It was the first game played under lights on their new field.
Many from Glenfield attended the fair at Carrington last week, where both 4-H clubs, the Homemakers, the hardware store and the Peavey Elevator had exhibits. In the livestock division, Monte McDaniel had the Grand Champion baby beef, and Frank Balvitsch’s heifer won second place in that class.
Announcements of the birth of a boy to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Talle, Glenfield, at a Jamestown hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 26, have been received here. The mother’s maiden name was Elda Sorenson. The Talles have two other small sons.
Miss Dorothy Wedin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Wedin of Hector, Minn., and LeRoy J. Topp, Jr., Grace City, were united in marriage on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the First Lutheran Church at Hector.
Miss Lillian Wachtel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Wachtel of Sykeston, and Alfred Reutter of Heaton, son of Barney Reutter of Chaseley, were united in marriage Friday, Sept. 30, in The Trinity Lutheran parsonage here with Rev. E. E. Lange officiating.

Homecoming activities at Carrington High School begin tomorrow as students will elect their royalty in the morning. Candidates for the 1974 homecoming king and queen are Jenny Ringerud, Roxanne Skiftun, Kim Goheen, David Swanson, Mark Evans and John Landon, all seniors.
Agriculturists from North Dakota and Minnesota will be honored Oct. 5 by NDSU for their outstanding performances as food producers, leadership abilities and services in individual communities.
New officers of the Carrington Kiwanis Club were installed by Bernum M. Hanson of Harvey, new lieutenant governor of Division 9, Kiwanis, at the regular Wednesday noon meeting. Installed were Walt Nystuen, president; I.G. Noraker, treasurer; J.A. Gilje, secretary; and directors, E.E. Blakely, Joe Jaeger, Gordon Thorstad and Rev. Felix Preske.
Carrington junior high football team lost their first game to Harvey with a score of 14-8, but came back strong against Fessenden, finishing 44-0.
Carrington Cross Country members defeated Sykeston 25-30, Sept. 24, first through tenth placers being as follows: Mark Miller, Sykeston; Ken Sampson, Carrington; Bob Ness, S; Bruce Penas, C; Bob Bergan, C; Bruce Gussiaas, C: Mark Schadewald, S; Mike Wobbema, C; Mark Mittleider, S: Jim Neumiller, S.
Reuel Harrison of Edmunds was among a delegation of 12 from North Dakota who attended an International Order of Odd Fellows meeting at Philadelphia, September 13 - 20.
Harrison is presently Deputy Grand Master and next year will move up to Grand Master of North Dakota Odd Fellows.
The Foster County Park Board has purchased approximately 8-10 acres of land at Juanita Lake from Bill Meyers for public use.

Over $900,000 in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds have been approved for street repairs in the city of Carrington. The funding will help repair damages resulting from ground water saturation.
The original Chieftain owners are bidding “farewell” to the city. Jud and Gen Tracy are moving to St. George, Utah to be closer to family.
For the second year in a row, Dale Townsend, a Carrington city employee, has been recognized by the North Dakota League of Cities at their annual meeting.
Conservation planning is a main focus for Allan Pfliger, the new district conservationist at the Carrington NRCS office. Pfliger replaces Linda Ingebretson, who recently accepted a similar position in Grand Forks.
A company of vaudevillians recreated the American folk tales of Paul Bunyan and John Henry, accompanied by a one-man band, at the Carrington Elementary School on Tuesday. The Children’s Theatre Company’s touring production performed - “Tremendously Tall Tales by Capt. Eddie B. Brown’s Traveling All-star Yokels.”
The 1999 Homecoming Court for Sykeston High School included Krystal Marcotte, Erin Riedesel, Stacy Winandy, Mike Huss, Bob Hetle and Brian Williams. Her Royal Highness was Kesley Tweed and His Royal Highness Chuck Seil, Jr.
New Arrivals – Nichole Ashlie, daughter of Chad and Angela Albrecht, Pingree, born Sept. 26 at the Jamestown Hospital. Tyler Michael, son of Michael and Danette Schmid, was born on July 23.
Cathay news – Adolph and Regina Pepple visited the Clarence Martins at Carrington on Sunday.
Selmer and Evelyn Veen were Sunday visitors at the Sheila and Quentin Lange home. Roxanne and Shane Gunderson, Bismarck, were also visitors.
Ed and Helen Fast, New Rockford, were Sunday dinner guests at the Bob and Maggie Annon home.
Jim and Patti Skadberg went to the wedding of P.J. Clifton and Aaron Lura on Saturday at the Catholic church in Carrington.
