Community members honored by 4-H Council

Foster County 4-H members held their annual Awards Night at the Foster County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Sept. 29.

During the event, the 4-H Council honored Marissa House as the "Outstanding 4-H Volunteer" for 2024.

Marissa was a dedicated 4-H member for 11 years before stepping into the role of co-leader of the Country Clovers 4-H Club in 2022.

Beyond her club leadership, Marissa has actively contributed to Foster County's dairy heifer lease program, as well as the poultry, rabbit and horse shows.

During fair time, Marissa is often one of the first to arrive at the barns and the last to leave. She is always ready to help 4-H members with their animals.

The 4-H Council also recognized the Foster County Soil Conservation District as a "Friend of 4-H." The award was accepted by the district's chairman, Cody Montgomery.

The Foster County Soil Conservation District has been a long-time supporter of 4-H, sponsoring the land and range judging teams, providing a tractor to maintain the horse arena and lending a trailer to transport exhibits to the state fair.

The final award of the evening, "Outstanding Premium Sale Supporter," went to Don and Janice Gussiaas and DJ's Home Center.

Each year, local businesses and individuals generously support the Foster County Livestock Premium Sale, which raised $49,530 this year.

Don and Janice have been major contributors, purchasing two livestock premiums in 2022, five in 2023 and four in 2024.

The Foster County 4-H Council extends its gratitude to the volunteers, businesses and community members who continue to support our youth.
