Fight in the nest

Carrington/Ellendale battle of the Cardinals goes to CHS, 3-1 -

While Ellendale's height and back row play caused problems at times for the Carrington Cardinals, in the end, CHS came away with a four-set win Tuesday, October 1, in the East Gym.

In the 25-18, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-18 triumph, the local Cards had three players in double figures offensively. Sophomore Harper Kollman led the way with 12 kills, followed by Isabel Wendel's 11 and 10 more by Calleigh Hewitt.

Ellendale was aggressive against the Carrington block, and though they found the floor on some key points, CHS had 11 stuffs. Edyn Hoornaert was the top net defender with four blocks, and Hewitt was closely behind with three and Kaydence VanRay two.

Carrington's setting duo finished with 37 assists, 22 for Wendel and Brynn Smith added 15.

Co-leadership in digs was shared by Mercedes Lura and Kenadie Pazdernik, each with 32. Wendel also had 22 and Kollman 19 to help the Cardinal efforts.

Carrington played in the two-day Des Lacs-Burlington Laker Invitational this past weekend, and will host the Barnes Co. North Bison this Tuesday night, October 8, for a District 5 matchup before holding their own varsity tournament Saturday in the West and East Gyms.
