Kim Leik
Kim Sheldon Leik, 82, of Cathay, N.D. passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Carrington, N.D. with Pastor Keith Hurlbut officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Fessenden. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Cathay. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Calvary Baptist Church, 725 Main Street, Carrington, ND 58421 or to the Lakeview Cemetery, 1397 51st Avenue NE, Cathay, N.D. 58422.
Kim was born April 10, 1942 to Clyde and Dorothy (Halbert) Leik in New Rockford, N.D. He was raised and educated in Cathay and graduated from Fessenden High School with the class of 1960. Kim continued his education at Minot State University for a short time before enlisting in the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam Conflict. After being honorably discharged from service, he moved home and began working for his father at the Cathay Elevator.
Kim was united in marriage to Doris Koenig on Nov. 24, 1963 in Coronado, Calif. In 1965 they moved back to North Dakota and have resided in Cathay since. To this union, the couple welcomed three children: Clyde, Steve and Kimberly.
Kim was an avid sports lover, especially softball, as he umpired and managed local teams. He also enjoyed attending the National Bowling Tournaments. Kim was very involved in his community, serving as a volunteer with the Cathay Fire Department and also the city council. His favorite pastime was spent with his family and friends. Kim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Kim was survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; children: Clyde (Renee) of Jordan, Minn., Steve (Anna) of Blaine, Minn.; and Kimberly Noffsinger of St. George, S.C.; grandchildren: Allison (Cody) Anton, Jagger Leik, Makenna Leik, Bryce Leik, Brenna Leik, Kendra (Tanner) Bachmann and Aliyah Dibley; siblings: Lola Rae Leik of Largo, Fla. and Nancy Stordahl of Mitchell, S.D.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Dorothy Leik; and siblings, Kay Retzlaff and C.T. Leik.
