Homecoming Day at the Carrington High School will be Friday, Oct. 28, with several festivities scheduled for the full-day event.
Vying for the coveted title of homecoming queen are Kathleen Brady, Mary Dunwoody and Joan Miller, representing the seniors, juniors and sophomores, respectively. The queen will be crowned by Charles Kahl and Wesley Hanson, football co-captains, at the homecoming dance Friday evening.
On Friday evening, Oct. 14, Mr. and Mrs. William Pierce celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party in their honor at the schoolhouse. A program was held and later in the evening there was dancing. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pierce celebrated their silver wedding anniversary that same evening.
Organization of a new homemakers club in Foster County is reported by Miss Mable Coyne, home extension agent, who was instrumental in getting the club started. It is the Kelly Creek Homemakers Club; its members, residents of the Bordulac community. Mrs. Soren Clausen is president of the new club; Mrs. Earl Hart is vice president; Mrs. Clarence Schroeder, secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. Paul Schroeder, program chairman.
Carrington and Harvey finished their conference football schedules with a 6-6 tie Monday evening at Harvey. The game was crucial in as much as had Carrington Cardinals won they would have been assured of at least a tie for the championship. The tie score leaves the Cardinals holding second place, while Rugby, with an easy victory in sight over Fessenden on Friday, will probably win championship honors.
At the Grand Theatre for Friday and Saturday will be “The Girl from Jones Beach” with Ronald Reagan, Virginia Mayo and Eddie Bracken.

Ed Winterer of the Central Insurance Agency in Carrington was elected president of the N.D. Association of Independent Insurance Agents at the organization’s annual meeting at the Ramada Inn in Jamestown.
Kelly Russell Caldwell of Williston has been appointed Project Involvement Director for the Garrison Diversion project, according to Homer M. Engelhorn, manager of Garrison Diversion Conservancy District.
In the youth division of the Gackle Livestock show at Gackle, the Grand Champion market steer was shown by Larry Scanson of Grace City.
A very powerful Rugby football team came to town last Friday night, and the result was a 27-6 victory for the Panthers. The Cardinals probably played their best game of the season in a losing effort.
Airman Keith A. Sebastian, Carrington, has graduated at Lackland, AFB, Texas, from the U.S. Air Force security policeman course conducted by the Air Training Command.
It was a festive occasion for Coast to Coast personnel at Carrington last weekend as they had their grand opening in a recently remodeled building. In lieu of a ribbon, Mayor Alvin Paulson “cut the board.”
Mr. and Mrs. Norton Stangeland announce the engagement of their daughter, Deborah Marie, to William Lassere, Santa Barbara, California. The wedding is planned for Dec. 21.
Rita Jakobson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jakobson of Carrington, was recently elected a member of the Lake Region Junior College Student Senate.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth A. Spitzer, Kensal, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gwen, to Arlynn J. Leapaldt, Woodworth, son of Mrs. Selma Leapaldt, Carrington, and the late Edward Leapaldt. The wedding date has been set for Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kensal.

The Carrington Fire Department answered a call last Wednesday afternoon at Bessette Motors, where a late-model car caught on fire. A new pickup sitting beside the car was also damaged by the heat.
A prairie falcon joined the show last week at Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge, when bird enthusiast and educator Greg Brooks share his knowledge with Carrington third graders. Brooks is one of seven licensed falconers in North Dakota. He also brought an old friend, Destiny, a bald eagle to visit the third graders.
An $8.7 billion disaster relief bill has passed the Senate and has gone to the White House for President Clinton’s signature. After Clinton signs the bill, farmers can expect to receive checks in about three weeks. It is expected to bring about $300 million to North Dakota farmers.
Area births – Larry and Dawn Wenninger, Carrington, are the parents of Megan Pearl, born Sept. 30; a son, Dalton Dean Thomas, born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Speldrich, October 11; Tom and Carrie Nichols, Sykeston are the parents of a baby boy, Sean Thomas, born Monday, Oct. 11.
Weddings – Shaunette Marie Dunn and Michael Paul Koenig were united in marriage last July 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, with Pastor Karla Coen-Tuff officiating.
Valley City Seniors performed at the Carrington Senior Citizens Center this past week. The choir performs with various instruments, including a washtub base. It was a lot of fun for the seniors and Pearl Johnson, the director.
Four Carrington runners earned all-region honors at the East Region Cross Country meet at Cooperstown, Oct. 14. They are Jeannie Falk, Lindsey Perhus, Allison Zwinger and Sarah Klein.
Playing at the Hometown Tavern Halloween bash – “Remedy,” Saturday, Oct. 30. Cash prizes for best costumes.
“The Roosters” play at the Vets Club on Friday, Oct. 29, with prizes at midnight for best costumes.
