Cards blank Wolves, Oakes

Finish 3-2 at home tourney -

Carrington finished their District 5 season with authority last Tuesday night, Oct. 15, in Tornado Alley, taking down Oakes in a rare straight-set win in the series, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-18.

The win allowed the Cards (15-9, 4-1 District 5) to clinch no worse than the number two seed for the upcoming district tournament in Ellendale. E-K-M has the head-to-head tiebreaker, and has the inside track for the top seed.

With the Tornadoes' loss, they effectively will be the number four seed should LaMoure/L-M defeat BCN in their final district match. The Loboes own that tiebreaker scenario.

The Cards' final district match will be Parent/Senior Night in the East Gym tonight (October 21) against the Griggs/Midkota Titans.

The previous night, CHS held Pink Night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, and hosted the Kidder County Wolves.

Carrington harnessed the power of their pink jerseys for another 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-21 and 25-23). Leading the way with 13 kills was Isabel Wendel, and she also passed for 15 assists in the win, as did Brynn Smith.

Both Calleigh Hewitt and Harper Kollman finished with eight kills, and six apiece came off the hands of Kaydence VanRay and Mercedes Lura.

Kenadie Pazdernik had 22 digs in the win for the Cards.

Two Wolves had double-digit nights in kills, with Ava Schmidt going for 12 and Taylor Zimmerman 10.

Carrington Tournament

CHS's annual varsity tournament was held Saturday, October 12, and the Cards would end up finishing with a record of three wins and two losses.

In pool play, the Cards fell to Hillsboro/Central Valley on points, taking the first set, 25-19, but falling in set two, 16-25. They rebounded for two victories against Rugby (25-21, 25-16) and Benson County (25-16, 26-24).

The team earned the fifth seed in tournament play, and got a rematch with the #12-seeded Rugby Panthers. Once again, CHS came out on top, 25-16 and 25-22.

Fourth-seeded South Prairie-Max was their next opponent, and the Royals ended the Cards' day with a 21-25, 22-25 loss.

SP-M would emerge as the tournament champions, defeating Central Cass in three sets for the title. Des Lacs-Burlington took third, defeating Thompson in another three-set showdown.

Statistics from the Oakes match, along with the tournament, were not available.
