Seniors go out in style

Carrington's "magnificent seven" took the court in the East Gym for the last time as volleyball players Monday night, Oct. 21.

When all the gift bags, flowers and hugs had been distributed, the business at hand took precedence, as the visiting Griggs/Midkota Titans hoped to put a damper on the festive mood.

Seniors Sierra Friedt, Kenadie Pazdernik, Isabel Wendel, Mercedes Lura, Edyn Hoornaert, Kaydence VanRay and Brynn Smith all played their part in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) win for the Cards to finish their District 5 schedule at 5-1.

Already locked into the number two seed, the Cards were forced to wait until the following evening's result between E-K-M and Ellendale to see if an upset by the latter squad would vault CHS into the top slot and a first-round bye at the district tournament starting Thursday, Oct. 31. The Rebels maintained the top seed with a 3-1 win.

The Cards' offensive balance aided them in the win, which puts them at 16-9 for the season. Wendel had nine kills, Calleigh Hewitt eight and Lura seven.

Smith and Wendel joined forces for 35 total assists, and Hoornaert was stout at the net with three blocks. Pazdernik finished with 32 digs, Friedt 21 and Wendel 20, and Friedt also led with two service aces.

G/M (10-15 overall, 2-4 District 5) got eight kills from Kennedy Reidman in the loss, and she also led the Titans with three blocks. Vanessa Vollmer added 30 digs and Emma McCullough 26 assists, and Jersey Gronneberg had a pair of aces.

The Titans played Kidder County Tuesday, Oct. 22, and won a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) victory. Match statistics were not available.
