Unfortunately scams have become a very common issue in today’s society.
“Scams come in many different forms,” said Carrington Police Chief Chris Bittmann.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant. Bittmann said there are a few signs to be aware of that indicate you are being scammed:
• Being pressured, threatened or promising something in return for giving or borrowing money.
• When borrowing money to a friend or family member, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
• Website and apps tend to look realistic. Use Google Authenticator to protect yourself. Google Authenticator provides an extra layer of security to your online accounts by adding a second step of verification when you sign in.
• If a person wants to send money using a crypto currency and a QR code, this is highly suspicious.
