Bickett, Wolsky on 'A' All-State Second Team

Thorson, Sieg, Mertz all on First Team defense for HWC Hornets -

Carrington senior quarterback/defensive back Josh Bickett, along with junior linebacker/running back Tate Wolsky, were selected to the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) All-State Football Second Team.

In addition to that, the HWC Hornets were represented by three All-State First Team selections, senior defensive back Tallen Thorson, senior linebacker Kayl Sieg, and sophomore defensive lineman Christian Mertz.

Names of team members were released to the public Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Bickett helped keep the Cardinal offense humming along and was also a power player in the secondary for the Cards during their 6-4 playoff season, while Wolsky built up much of his resume on the defensive side of the ball as CHS's leading tackler this past fall.

Bickett's statistics include completing 98-for-152 for 1,611 yards passing and 19 touchdowns, and he was also a force on the ground with 653 yards on 105 carries and 10 more scores.

Wolsky had 154 tackles this past fall (103 solo, 51 assists), to go along with 13 tackles for loss and three sacks.

The Hornets advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Class A playoffs, finishing with a 7-4 record and a loss to eventual state champion Velva/Drake-Anamoose/Garrison. Thorson, Sieg and Mertz were significant contributors on both sides of the ball, and made key defensive stops when HWC needed them the most.

Statistics for Thorson, Sieg and Mertz were not received at press time.
