Wheat diseases highlighted at Central Dakota Ag Day

The Central Dakota Ag Day Meeting will be held Dec. 16, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Carrington Research Extension Center north of Carrington, N.D.

Keynote speakers include Tom Brusegaard, Field Representative for U.S. Senator John Hoeven and Frayne Olson, NDSU Extension Crops Economist.

There will be three topic sessions offered the day of the meeting; Agronomy, Ag Life and Livestock.

This article will focus on the presentations being presented in the Agronomy Session. NDSU Extension Plant Pathologist Andrew Friskop will present "2024 Wheat Diseases Review and Associated Quality Issues." There were so many spring wheat diseases this past year, there is much to learn about wheat diseases.

NDSU Extension Soybean Pathology Specialist Wade Webster will present "Playing Defense Against Emerging Soybean Diseases." Nearly every soybean disease possible in North Dakota and a few more were at high levels in 2024.

NDSU Extension Agriculture Technology Systems Specialist Rob Proulx will present "Spray Drones with A Dash of Artificial Intelligence." Do spray drones really work, and will artificial intelligence take over agriculture?

NDSU Extension Cropping Systems Specialist Anitha Chirumamilla will present the "Basics of Canola Production." As more acres of canola are grown farther south in North Dakota, what are the best practices to maximize canola profitability for our area?

NDSU Extension Cropping Systems Specialist Jeff Stachler will present "Dry Bean and Soybean Weed Management." If dicamba can't be applied over the top of Xtend and XtendFlex soybean, with all of the herbicide-resistant biotypes present in many fields these days and the number of weedy dry bean fields this past year, explore knowing how to properly manage weeds in dry bean and soybean.

NDSU Extension Barnes County Agent Alicia Harstad will present "Maximizing Weed Control: A Systems Approach." As herbicide-resistant weeds increase, it is paramount all herbicide applicators do their best job in applying herbicides to maximize weed control in all crops.
