In these polarizing and sometimes divisive times, Trinity Lutheran Church of Carrington, along with most of the other Christian congregations, wants to send God’s message that there is more that brings us together than pulls us apart.
These congregations, together, are holding “Three Days of Prayer”, which will cover a span of 72 continuous hours starting at 6 p.m. from Monday, Jan. 6, to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
Pastor Ritchie Cole, who was called to minister at Trinity in July, said that the event is in its 13th year of existence, and is coordinated by the local congregation’s associated governing body, Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC).
Each congregation is invited to participate as they are led by God. After much prayer, “We’re looking for persons within Carrington or the area to join in prayer, about three to four people every hour, to come to Trinity in that 72-hour span,” Cole says. “We want the whole community to participate.” This is to be a “Body of Christ in Carrington” event, not a Trinity Lutheran Church event, he says.
He says the mission of the event is not to pray over any worldly issues that would “divide the Body of Christ,” but that would unite us in providing witness to God’s love and everlasting grace.
For example, some topics would be the future of our nation, state and local communities, drugs in our schools, the safety of those who need to work outside in potentially dangerous temperatures.
“These are some examples, but this is not an exhaustive list. We will ask people to pray as they are led by God during this time,” said Cole.
