Recently commissioned a second lieutenant in the National Guard was Orville J. Laber, a member of Carrington’s Company F. He served previously as a sergeant first class. Announcement of his new commission was made by Capt. Alvin Paulson, the local commanding officer.
Edson Lund, member of the Rose Haven Variety 4-H Club, has been awarded a $50.00 savings bond for outstanding work in livestock, it was announced by George F. Stewart, county extension agent.
Winners in the Junior Chamber of Commerce – sponsored home lighting contest were announced last Friday night after a committee of judges, selected by the home lighting committee, had made an inspection of the homes entered. Geo. F. Stewart was awarded first place, Fred Schroeder second and Ted Ramsey third. Cash prizes of $5, $3 and $2 were provided by the Junior Chamber.
Ronald, the six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herald Berglund, Brantford, spent several days in the New Rockford Hospital, suffering from pneumonia. He returned home Sunday, much improved in health.
Funeral services were held at the Grace City church on Dec. 9 for Mrs. Serina Helby, age 80, and burial made in the local cemetery.
Word was received here of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. David Tokah of Baker, Mont. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, Mrs. E.H. Riedesel, Cathay, left for Baker on Thursday to be with her daughter for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Montgomery, Melville, are the parents of a daughter born at the Carrington Hospital Saturday, Dec. 17.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Roaldson and Ronald and Stanley Roaldson were Christmas dinner guests at the John R. Edwardson home.

Procuring exotic cattle breeding stock outside of the U.S. to import to a nch or farm in North Dakota is not just a matter of choosing animals and rentise breeding having them shipped – so Chris Klein, local breeder, has found. Klein, accompanied by Mrs. Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Richter of Karlsruh, traveled to France in December to select Tarentaise breeding stock.
Jerome W. Schroeder, Bordulac, has been initiated into the NDSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honorary scholastic society. Schroeder is a fourth-year student in pharmacy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Schroeder.
Supper guests Dec. 14 at the Alf Stangeland home to celebrate the 55th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wright were Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Wright and family, Mr. and Mrs. Les Greger and Lee, Grace City, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Eckart and Heather, Bowdon, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wipperling, New Rockford, and Mr. and Mrs. Jon Stangeland, Glenfield.
Merry Maids 4-H club had their Christmas supper at the Virgil Zink home on Monday evening. The mothers were guests.
The Everglad Homemakers Club held their Christmas party at the Jack Rosenau home Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Munson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Matt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Brandvold and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Munson and family greeted their mom, Jensina Forsberg, with a housewarming party Friday evening.

The Waliser Bridge replacement project will not be pursued for the 2000 construction season, the Foster County Commissioners decided at their meeting last Tuesday. The bridge is located 4 miles south and four miles west of Carrington.
Carrington Health Auxiliary honors Jewel Linderman and Lynn Leapaldt as volunteers of the year. Lynn has volunteered faithfully helping in Long Term Care for several years. Jewel of Rose Garden Floral has been very supportive of Carrington Health Center and Auxiliary.
The fourth drawing for Stash of Cash went to Sheila Tanata of Carrington held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at Seaburg Drug. Crystal Duda was the fifth and final winner of the Stash of Cash promotion. She received her cash at Hometown Tavern.
Otter Tail is ready to “keep the lights on” during the Y2K rollover. Otter Tail spokesman Cris Anderson stated, “Our priority is to keep the electrical system safe and reliable during the rollover.”
Ring in the new year with these New Year’s Eve Specials at Prairie Inn – Prime Rib or Surf and Turf; New Year’s Day – broasted chicken, seasoned sirloin tips or baked ham.
Hometown Tavern has “Remedy” to dance to for New Year’s Eve.
